Healing Through Connection: How Community Empowers Your Self-Growth and Inner Healing Journey
Do you feel alone, isolated, and disconnected from others on your healing journey? Do you constantly read self-help books only to feel more overwhelmed, alone, and confused about where to start?
It may seem obvious, but you may benefit from being a part of a healing community.
In this blog, I will share how community can help heal inner trauma, help you on your self-growth journey, and show you how to find a community that fits you and your needs.
1. Why is Community Crucial to Inner Healing and Your Self-growth Journey?
It's because we are social beings. We can't do this thing called life alone.
Also, connecting, growing, and healing with others in a community can help you feel more empowered, connected, motivated, peaceful, and in tune with your inner self.
One thing I noticed when doing research for this blog is that the self-help community rarely discusses how important community is in improving and growing internally.
It can feel frustrating and isolating to constantly see videos and blogs telling you that you have to do this all alone.
Well, you don't. And I am here to reassure you that you can find a community that can support you on your self-growth and inner healing journey.
So, let's get into the nitty-gritty. The research indicates that social disconnection and isolation are significant issues in the United States today.
The United States is experiencing a loneliness epidemic. Additionally, social connection is considered a social determinant of health. This means we need connections to be healthy, functioning individuals in society!
There are solutions to this loneliness epidemic, like social prescribing. Social prescribing is a prescription to connect with others and be a part of a community, like a community garden or volunteer opportunity.
It comes down to the fact that we need each other, and we need each other in person, not virtually. We need to connect again to help each other heal and grow.
So, how do you find the right community for you? Well, before we do that, I need to note that it is essential that we find communities that are safe, supportive, respectful, and open.
A community can have a negative effect if it is toxic and shameful, so it's all about finding a community that is good for you and your health.
2. How Do You Find the Right Community for You?
Follow your hobbies and interests. For example, I joined a community garden because I was interested in homesteading and permaculture.
You can also find healthy and safe communities through mentors, therapists, friends, and family.
You can even find community through volunteering and getting involved in your area. Or through mental health healing groups if you want healing communities.
3. How Do You Heal With Community?
· Be open and honest about your experiences and what comes up in your community space. That means not shaming sadness or anger if it comes up.
· Listening to your inner voice and intuition when engaging with your selected community
· Holding space for others and respecting their reality and experiences
· Support others
· Being open to meeting new and different people. You may meet people who have different beliefs and values than you. Try to be open to them and learn and support one another. We are all human.
· Keep coming back and be consistent.
· Be uncomfortable. Embrace being uncomfortable. It's good for you.
· Have fun!
· Find a commonality among community members—for example, a codependency group. Again, you want to ensure the community is safe and supportive.

4. How Can Community Help You on Your Self-Growth Journey?
Community can help you on your self-growth journey by changing your perspective on issues and realizing that you aren't alone in your problems.
Many other people have gone through or are going through something similar and may be able to support you in your journey through dealing with this specific issue and any inner growth roadblocks.
They don't even have to give you advice or say anything. By just being there for you and listening to your story, they can hold space for you and support you through whatever you are going through.
5. Obstacles
Some things may get in the way of finding and connecting with a safe and healthy community. These include lack of transportation, disability and health issues, money and financial issues, or a more introverted personality.
I in no way am saying that if you are an introvert that community can't help you, but you may need to implement boundaries with others so that you don't feel drained after being around people.
Also, a community doesn't have to have a lot of people. It can look like a small group of people with whom you feel connected and supported. So, if you feel drained by being around a lot of people, maybe focus on finding communities with 3-10 people max, depending on what works for you.
6. The positive Effects of Community
After finding and engaging with your community, you'll notice a new sense of belonging and internal fulfillment. You will feel more connected and empowered to make the needed changes to move forward in your life and healing journey.
With this new-found community, you will grow your relationships with others and create lasting connections that are meaningful, caring, and worthwhile.
These new connections will be essential for inner healing and surviving life's hardships. By sharing personal hardships with others in your new community, you will begin to feel less alone and empowered to make needed internal and external changes.
7. My Story
Connecting with my community reminded me that I am not alone and that many people think, feel, and experience things similar to what I do.
For example, I am part of a codependency anonymous group that helps individuals overcome codependency patterns and behaviors. By sharing my story with this group, I have been able to move through life experiences such as breakups, work conflicts, and people-pleasing tendencies.
In addition, my story has helped others better deal with hardships and move toward healing.
8. Wrapping it Up
With all that said, I highly recommend that you find a community that helps you! I hope this information inspires and empowers you to connect with others so that we all can become the best versions of ourselves.
