Negative thoughts can be debilitating and can create a life full of suffering and sadness. They make you feel like your circumstances are forever. Additionally, changing your mindset can seem even more daunting.

I've been there. Every day, it felt like my negative thoughts controlled me and continued to make me feel horrible about myself and my life. I felt stuck and hopeless for the future.

Until I finally learned the crucial steps to creating a mindset that helped me on my path toward the life of my dreams, which I'm sharing with you today.

In this blog post, I'm sharing the ten steps I learned to help me create a mindset for happiness and success and to create the life of my dreams. I'll be covering the following:

So, if you're tired of struggling with debilitating negative thoughts and changing your mindset, and you're ready to start your journey toward creating the life of your dreams, then you're in the right place!

1. How I Realigned with My True Self and Changed My Mindset for Happiness and Success

I have always struggled with debilitating negative thoughts and mindset. In college, these thoughts and mindset held me back from being the best version of myself. I was doing poorly in my classes and couldn't find my place at school and in life. My negative self-talk kept me stuck.

I didn't know why my life was the way it was. I tried talking to friends and family about it, which didn't help, and I would lay awake at night thinking, "What's wrong with me?" Nothing was wrong with me; I just didn't have the correct tools and knowledge to deal with these thoughts and emotions.

After college and after a huge breakup, I decided that enough was enough, and I needed help. I immediately started therapy, and it seemed that the inner work I was doing with my therapist began to help me realign with myself and gain the tools I needed to begin to create the life I dreamed of.

With continued help from my therapist and reading numerous self-help books, I began to find what worked for me and began implementing the tools I learned to change my mindset for good.

So, here is what I learned, and you can begin implementing these tools today! I will show you exactly how to adopt a positive mindset, realign with your true self, and begin to create the life you deserve.

2. How to Create a Self-Forgiveness Practice

First, let's look at what a self-forgiveness practice is. A self-forgiveness practice is setting aside time to show compassion and forgiveness for yourself. It doesn't have to be extravagant; it could be a simple self-acknowledgment.

Self-forgiveness doesn't mean avoiding accountability; it's about acknowledging the past and moving forward with self-love.

Self-forgiveness is important because it allows us to let go of feelings such as guilt and anger toward ourselves. Self-forgiveness is also important for our self-esteem and allows us to show compassion to ourselves.

To create a self-forgiveness practice, start small. For me, that looks like doing the Hawaiian ho'oponopono forgiveness meditation at least once a week (Click here for more info on what ho'oponopono is and the benefits).

You could even make up your own self-forgiveness mantra or even your own meditation practice that you do and say once a month. Make it work for your schedule.

Check-in with yourself and ask what you need to move past this. Be honest and give yourself space to feel what you need to feel. Journal these feelings and what you need to move forward. You could write it out as a bullet point list or casually journal.

Next, write out what you want your practice to look like. Do you want to do a self-forgiveness meditation, journal, or do this in your head? Do whatever works for you; no one way is better.

Lastly, set up when you want to practice self-forgiveness. You could set time aside to do a meditation before bed or even plan to do it spontaneously when you need. There is no wrong answer.

That's it! Pretty simple, right? If you want more help with this, I will be offering a re-align one-week course soon so look out for the launch by signing up for my newsletter below and getting your free realign mindfulness workbook today.

3. The Importance of Self-Compassion and Implementing It in Your Life

Self-compassion plays a crucial role in fostering a positive mindset. A positive mindset is not just thinking positive thoughts all the time; it is also having compassion and love for ourselves when unwanted thoughts come up.

Self-compassion also looks like setting healthy boundaries and respecting and prioritizing ourselves first. This is one reason why self-compassion is so important.

Some ways you can implement self-compassion in your life are journaling, setting time aside to meditate, checking in with yourself every day and asking yourself what you need today, practicing self-love through affirmations, and practicing self-forgiveness. There are many other ways to practice self-compassion, and that can look different for everyone.

4. How to Prioritize Yourself and Create Effective Boundaries

One major way to prioritize yourself and create effective boundaries is learning to say no. It sounds silly and simple, but learning to say no can be a major way to gain your time and power back.

For example, if your boss asks you to stay later to finish some work but you mentally feel drained and overworked, learning to say no in these situations can be the difference between thriving and burnout.

Saying no is also a way to create effective boundaries. You can't do everything, and sometimes taking the time for yourself is essential for your mental health. For me, learning to say no changed my life because it put the power back in my hands and allowed me to put myself first and foremost.

Another way to prioritize yourself is through setting planned time aside for you. We have all heard of a mental health day, and you deserve more of them!

If an off day does not fit in your schedule, then even set time in the morning before leaving for work or school just for you; this can be helpful too.

Lastly, to create effective boundaries, it is crucial to learn to communicate what you need and stick to your boundary. What I mean by this is if you say you need a certain time for you and have to say no to something or someone, stick to your decision. If you do, people will take you and your boundaries more seriously, and you will also learn to trust yourself as well.

5. The Importance of Aligning with Your Values

Aligning with your values is essential for creating the life of your dreams. You might not know what your values are, and that's ok! I have actually created a FREE workbook that can help you identify what your values are. Check out the FREE workbook in the form at the end of this blog.

If the workbook is not something that resonates with you, some other ways to identify your values include writing out what is most important to you and what your ideal life looks like and going from there.

The reason aligning with your values is so important is because aligning with your values will allow you to take and stay on the path toward your dream life. Living by your values allows you to live authentically as you and will allow you to feel whole and aligned in who you are and what you want to do with your life.

Lastly, aligning your life with your values helps you create a mindset that is abundant and clear. For example, when aligning my life with my values, it allowed me to stay focused on the thoughts that brought value to the life I was creating.

6. Finding Your People and Getting Professional Help

Finding your crowd and getting the professional help you need can allow you to flourish and stay aligned on your path. The people you surround yourself with can help you on your self-healing journey and can be crucial components to help and support you toward your goals.

To find your people, be open to opportunities that may come up to network and connect with others. For example, you could start a new hobby or activity like running and join a running group/community in your area. These opportunities will allow you to connect with people that have similar interests and possibly goals.

Getting professional help like therapy is also a vital connection for changing your mindset and staying consistent on your path toward your dream life. For example, my therapist provided me with different perspectives and tools to cope with the negative thoughts that came up for me.

Finding the right therapist can be difficult, but there are resources online that may be able to help you narrow down therapists that connect best with you. A good resource I used when finding a therapist was the website psychology today.

Psychology today allows you to narrow down your choices of therapists based on multiple factors, which can be helpful in finding the therapist for you. Click here to check out psychology today. *I do not earn a commission from psychology today links.*

7. How to Identify Your Limiting Beliefs

To identify your limiting beliefs, the first step is to be aware of your inner talk, what you tell yourself all day. Is there a repeating negative thought that comes up every day? Is there a story you're telling yourself that isn't true?

The story we tell ourselves about ourselves and our life can give us clues into our limiting beliefs. A limiting belief doesn't have to hold you back forever. Limiting beliefs, such as 'I'll never be good at communicating,' can be overcome. You can always get better at communicating; you just need to learn how to. That change of perspective is vital in changing your limiting beliefs.

So, watch out for the story you are telling yourself. Take one day to write down anything you feel are the negative thoughts creating your story about the past, present, or future. Doing this will ensure that you continue to create a healthy mindset and create the life of your dreams.

8. Self-Help Books That Can Help You on Your Journey

Below are some recommendations for some helpful self-help books that can help you on your journey.

·         The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

·         Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz

·         Ask and it is Given by Ester and Jerry Hicks

·         You are a bada** by Sincero

·         Atomic Habits by James Clear

·         The Power of your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy

·         The Wisdom of Anxiety by Sheryl Paul

9. How to Create a Positive Journaling Experience

To create a positive journaling experience, the first step is to set an intention on how you want journaling to serve you. An intention is simply stating what you want to accomplish. An intention helps you focus on your goal that corresponds with journaling.

Next, decide how much you want to journal. Do you want to do it every day at a certain time or just once a week? Do what works for you.

Next, pick out a journal that inspires you. You can even decorate the front of a journal with cutouts from magazines to create something that makes you happy every time you see your journal.

Next, decide what you want to write about. Do you want to free-write? Do you want to ask yourself a set of questions every morning and night? Set up the contents of the journal any way that works for you.

Lastly, just write and be compassionate with anything that comes up for you. Don't worry about spelling or grammar; just write out what feels right for you.

Creating a positive journaling experience is not hard and can be a great tool in writing down your thoughts and emotions as you work toward changing your mindset and creating the life you want.

10. Finding Meditation and Breathwork That Works for You

Meditation and breathwork are essential components for creating a positive and successful mindset. Meditation and breathwork help you stay present and calm the chatter of your mind, bringing inner peace.

Finding meditation and breathwork that works for you doesn’t have to be hard. It may take some practice and time, but eventually, you will find what works for you.

To find meditation and breathwork that works for you, I would start with guided meditations. YouTube has many offerings of great meditation and breathwork exercises. Start there and see how you feel.

Once you feel comfortable with guided meditations, you can start to experiment with silent meditation work and see how that feels for you. If silent meditation is not for you, that is okay; find your way back to a guided meditation that works for you.

There are many types of guided meditations and breathwork online, and it can feel overwhelming, so here are a few guided meditations and breathwork structures to look out for:

·         Affirmation guided meditation

·         Future self-work (working with your timeline)

·         Wim Hof breathwork

·         Mantra guided meditation

·         Silent meditation

·         Box breathing

11. The Importance of Positive Affirmations and Finding the Ones That Resonate with You

Positive affirmations are very helpful in changing your mindset toward success and positivity. Positive affirmations are essentially positive statements about yourself and/or your circumstances. Affirmations are essential because they shape your self-talk, encompassing both positive and negative beliefs.

To find the affirmations that resonate with you, write out any negative thoughts that come up often for you and switch that negative thought/statement to a positive.

For example,

your negative thought could be, "I am not a good cook," and you could switch this to a positive affirmation such as, "I am obtaining the skills and knowledge to make more delicious dishes for me and my family."

Another way to find positive affirmations that resonate with you is to listen to affirmation tracks on YouTube. You can look up any type of affirmation track such as self-love affirmations. As you listen to more affirmations, you will find what resonates and feels good to you.
